Maternity. For the expectant mother, pregnancy is the beginning of a wonderful story filled with laughter, joy, love and hope. Tasteful and flattering, a professional pregnancy portrait will help you remember the beauty and anticipation of your pregnancy. This magical time in your life is reason to celebrate. I would be honored to share in your celebration by creating beautiful portraits for you during this special time. Years from now you will be able to share with your child the beautiful beginning of their story. You are undergoing a brief but precious change in your life. Capture these fleeting moments and create cherished memories of this life changing event. Pregnancy is a right of passage that should be embraced and documented.
Newborns. I have photographed over 1000 newborn babies since I started Baby Face Photography in 1997. My experience has taught me that newborns photograph best before they are two weeks old. However I offer the newborn style sitting up to 6 weeks of age.
Your baby needs to be asleep in order to get the shots. Sometimes this can take several hours in the studio. I need to be able to manipulate the babys position without waking them. A baby who is awake will not maintain the desired pose. It is helpful if you can keep your baby awake for a few hours directly prior to coming to the studio. I realize this can be a difficult task. I have listed a few suggestions on the newborn shoot details link.
details
Keeping baby awake:
Keeping the baby awake is extremely important. This becomes especially necessary when
young siblings will be included in the shoot. Some ideas for keeping your baby awake include:
• Bathing
• Stretching out the time between the feedings prior to the shoot
• Burping the baby more frequently than necessary so they don't fall asleep while eating
It is a good idea to plan on feeding the baby as soon as you arrive in the studio. This will allow
you to undress the baby prior to feeding and provide for a smooth transition should the baby
fall asleep.
What to bring:
Newborns are tastefully photographed naked. You do not need to bring anything for your baby,
however those who plan to be photographed with the baby will need to bring the following:
• White shirts (for images taken with baby on a white backdrop)
• Black shirts (for images taken with baby on a black backdrop)
• If a family shot is desired make sure all family members have the same color shirt (either black
or white)
• Dad will need to bring a long sleeved, buttonless, black shirt for the "hand shot" (example in gallery)
Fair haired/skinned people usually photograph best in black, while dark haired/skinned people photograph best in white. It is recommended that siblings where white for their pictures with baby regardless of their hair/skin tone.
back
Babies. Ahh babies. Their bright eyes, bald heads, chubby legs and toothless smiles, are truly inspiring. I love everything about them from their simple sense of humor to how they are adored by their mommies and daddies. It is my absolute pleasure to work with you and your baby. I want to capture everything from the cute little way she crinkles her nose to the silly 'o' face he makes when daddy pretends to sneeze. Please don't be alarmed if I break into a rendition of Itsy bitsy spider. Peek-a-boo will be played, toes will be tickled and beautiful images will be captured. When scheduling a photo session for your baby plan to arrive at your babys happiest time of day. Children under the age of one typically take two naps a day. The majority of babies in this age group seem to be at their best just after their morning nap. Please don't forget to bring your babys special lovie. You might want to ask grandma if she has saved anything from when you were a baby that can be included in the shoot as well.
Toddlers are very energetic and funny little people. Just like everybody else they like to know whats going on. I encourage you to talk to your toddler about what will be happening on the day of the shoot. Be sure to tell your toddler that you will be going to Ms. Amy's house to take pictures, and that it will be fun. If you plan to do a clothing change, let them know about that too. Although they are not able to communicate thoughts effectively yet, they do understand them. Toddler shoots are full of praise and singing and praise and giggles and praise and dancing and more praise. This age group thrives on your positive attention. As your toddler grows so does his personality. I thoroughly enjoy discovering all the traits that make your toddler an individual, as I instigate reactions and capture his spirit. Feel free to bring a favorite book, blanket, or toy. Most toddlers are at their best in the morning after a good nights sleep and with a full belly. Please plan on scheduling your toddlers shoot during their best time of day.
Big Kids. Big kids are cool! They are smart and fun and strong. Sometimes big kids dont like to be photographed. I know the feeling. Sometimes when they try to smile it looks fake. Me too! The only way around this is serious fun. I have a few corny jokes, but they are never as good as when the kids tell me a joke. Kid's jokes are hilarious! So if you dont know any, look some up online before you come. If making me laugh doesn't get them smiling I have a few other ideas, but since it doesn't require homework I'll keep them a surprise. Feel free to bring big kid stuff with you. Sports equipment or uniforms, musical instruments, well- behaved pets, the baseball cap that he wears all the time, you know, stuff like that.
Family. The people in your family are the people you are most comfortable with. Your family portrait should reflect that. You know and love everything about each other. As the kids grow up, the relationship changes. Your son goes from wanting to marry mommy to not wanting to be seen with her. Your daughter, who always thought daddy was so funny, is now embarrassed by him. Delight in the natural progression of it all. It comes full circle. My Dad is hilarious again. Plan to sit in for a few shots with your children and allow me to capture the dynamics, interaction and bond that your family shares. The best pictures are not necessarily those in which everyone is looking at the camera and smiling, but those that capture the personality and spirit of the subjects.
Teens. Celebrate everything your child has achieved and the beautiful person they have become with one last photo session before they graduate. Allow me to capture that winning personality they have developed that has gotten them where they are and will take them so much farther. Schedule a shoot with a group of friends who will be going away to different colleges soon. Confirmation, modeling portfolio, prom or a sweet sixteen birthday, whatever the occasion, your teenagers will be comfortable with my laid back approach to the shoot. Together your teen and I will find their best angles by checking the images as we go. Teens tend to appreciate my direction and ideas. I have even been known to lend things from my own wardrobe for the shoot.
BFP on location
Outdoor location shoots are scheduled from May to October. Combination studio/backyard shoots are always an option as long as the weather is nice. This option can be just what is needed for an energetic 2 year old or to add variety to your shoot. I regularly schedule shoots at the lake. Occasionally I will schedule shoots at the beach in Ocean City, MD. I will also meet you at your home or favorite location. There is no charge within 20 miles of the studio. A $2.00 charge per mile is added for every mile over 20 miles according to mapquest.
Amy's Backyard. The backyard is a great option that is available weather permitting. There is always a shady spot that is easy on your eyes. It is my favorite "room" in the house. I am always looking for fun new ideas and treasures to add to it. My children don't mind sharing their swings or their two-story playhouse with my customers, as long as it helps get good shots...it usually does
Your Spot. I am always up for something new. My customers have invited me to beautiful places to photograph their families. I find that children are very comfortable in their own surroundings. They are happy to see me on their turf. There is a sense of pride and happiness that shines through as they show me around. Beautiful images are usually in abundance.
Amy's Lake Spot. The lake is a very special place to me. I used to be able to see it from my kitchen window, in the house where both of my children, and my third child Baby Face Photography were born. It is public property, but not a very well known spot. There is a shady path that winds along the edge of the lake between big rocks that can accommodate the entire family. It's a great place to bring the dog along as well.
Amy's Beach Spot. Beach shoots take a lot of planning and a little luck with the weather. We shoot just north of Ocean City, MD, in the evening around 6:30 pm or in the morning around 7:00 am (so far my sister is the only one who has taken me up on the 7am time slot). This time of day provides the best light and fewer crowds. If the forecast is calling for rain on the day of your shoot, I will stay in close contact with you. We need to find the perfect window where the kids have napped and the rain has stopped but the crowds have not yet returned to the beach. Pray it isn't too windy that evening. Rescheduling is difficult as I am usually booked solid.
Holiday. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Holidays everyone! It's time to start thinking about holiday pictures again. This year I have put a few pictures on the site to give you some ideas. I think it's best to do one or two holiday shots and spend the remainder of the shoot getting some nice shots that can be displayed year round. We have a Christmas photo tradition in my house. Every year I set out all the cards we have sent through the years. Now that the kids are teenagers it is quite a display. In a glance you can see how much they have grown. Feel free to have a look when you come for your annual shoot. Many of my customers have started similar traditions with photo ornaments or framed photos. It's never too late to start a fun tradition. Christmas is the perfect time of year for such things. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Hi. My name is Amy Masser. I am the mother of two really great kids. I opened Baby Face Photography in 1997 when they were one and three. What was I thinking? Actually I know exactly what I was thinking. I couldn't find a reasonably priced creative photographer in the area that specialized in children. So I started taking my own creative pictures. When my friends saw the pictures they asked me to take some shots of their children. Pretty soon strangers were calling for pictures. I took a few classes to learn the basics of studio photography and Baby Face Photography was born. I have filled my studio with child sized props and wardrobe. Many of which are original pieces I designed and created myself. BFP was designed to cater to young families. Here it is understood that sometimes it takes a lot of patience to get the perfect shot.
I think what sets me apart from other photographers is my personality. You can see it in my children as well. We are a perfect mix of goofball and rockstar. My sister says I relate so well to children because I refuse to grow up myself. That coupled with my ability to appreciate the moment at hand. Just because the shoot isn't going as planned, doesn't mean I am not taking pictures. Sometimes a great pout can be the perfect shot. I love to read people and engage them. I try to open them up and bring them out. I do this even when I am not behind the lens. I love to get a reaction. I entertain myself by giving the perfect compliment to a complete stranger and watching their body language change. I am always looking for the most beautiful angle or expression on every face I see. Children are by far my favorite subjects. I think it's their honesty that is so beautiful to me. A close second would be a parent holding their child. That is the picture of true love.
I absolutely love my job. Thank you to all the parents who continue to bring their beautiful families for pictures. Watching your little ones grow has been a constant joy. Thank you for sending your friends for pictures and allowing me to continue to do what I love. See you soon.
